Focusing on wool, this lively discussion was led by Dr Lynn Wilson, circular design practitioner, researcher, and educator. Lynn was joined by designer Di Gilpin whose hand-knit design studio has been based in Scotland for more than 38 years.

How can we empower young people to be changemakers?

Led by Izzie Eriksen, Founding Director at ApparelXchange, discussion covered the disjointed approach to sustainable fashion education in primary and secondary schools, the inspiring people and organisations tackling this, how actionable learning opportunities empower young people to be activists for the future, and that textile education requires a countrywide approach that can be sustained and reach all students in Scotland.

How can we strengthen design and material reuse networks in rural places?

28 April 2022

After our first community discussion focusing on rural places, led by designer Hannah Clinch based in Dunoon, Argyll, what became clear was a shared, hopeful determination for a more sustainable approach to textile and clothing production in Scotland, as well as frustrations around keeping local textile and manufacturing skills alive due to them being undervalued in our society and by the government.
